There’s never a dull moment in the sport of MMA. Fighters are routinely expanding the possibilities of the game, no matter how outlandish. This last weekend, an amateur-level talent scored a fabled ‘double-punch’ knockout, from bottom position, no less.
Texas’ Gabriel Peinada, a 5-2 AMMA bantamweight, notched one of the highlights of his career against Santiago Gonzales. The two met in the Empire Championship Series on March 14 for the EP bantamweight title.

Peinada found himself in the bottom position with Gonzales cranking his neck with a painful can-opener — similar to what Glover Teixeira brutalized Jan Blachowicz with. What came next was totally unpredictable, as Peinada clubbed Gonzales with both fists on either side of his head. Somehow, it scored the knockout.
A quick reversal and some brutal ground & pound later, and Peinada scored his fifth amateur victory. Check out the highlight below courtesy of Matysek on X.
Another angle of the knockout shows just how unexpected it really was. The ground-and-pound was especially brutal, considering it doesn’t count toward their professional records.
The finish was vaguely reminiscent of Krzysztof Glowacki’s one-punch KO from bottom position at KSW Colosseum 2 in 2023. Now, having gone viral on social media, Peinado has the best possible start to his eventual professional career.
