UFC Perth wasn’t a career renaissance for Aussie heavyweight Tai Tuivasa, as he failed to break his six-fight losing streak against Louie Sutherland.

England’s Sutherland stepped in on short notice to fight ‘Bam Bam,’ and put on a career-best performance, snapping his own two-fight skid with a lopsided decision. Sutherland smothered Tuivasa bell to bell, scoring a 10-8 in round three after an attempted foul by Tuivasa.

Former interim heavyweight title challenger Tuivasa is now on a seven-fight losing streak, coming awfully close to Sam Alvey’s record eight losses in a row. If Tuivasa wasn’t on the chopping block before, he certainly is now. Either way, the fans aren’t letting him off the hook.

Still some hope for Tuivasa

Tuivasa also nears the eight-fight skid of Tony Ferguson, who was the interim lightweight titleholder on a 12-fight streak before suffering the biggest drop-off in UFC history. ‘El Cucuy’ managed to recoup in 2025 with two big wins on the influence boxing scene, and now has a big wrestling match lined up with No. 1 lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan.

It’s clear that Tuivasa is no longer UFC caliber, but he has the style, personality, and fame to find success in other promotions.

Louie Sutherland recoups with huge UFC Perth victory

Tuivasa wasn’t the only one on the chopping block in this fight. Sutherland admitted to Fighters Weekly that he could be fighting for his spot on the roster. After losing two fights in the Octagon, a heel-hook to Valter Walker, and a TKO loss to fellow UFC Perth fighter Brando Pericic, Sutherland knew it was do-or-die on this Fight Night.

“…At the end of the day, I don’t take the easy route,” Sutherland said. “I’m not expecting an easy life, I haven’t asked for an easy life, and I’m ready to put it all on the line, any fight I go into, really.”
