Moses Itauma could be primed to become the next big face of British boxing, according to retired British boxer David Price, who was once a highly-touted prospect himself.
As Moses Itauma prepares to face Jermaine Franklin this weekend, some boxing fans are already branding the matchup a stepping stone. The 21-year-old has rapidly built momentum with swift victories over names such as Dillian Whyte and Demsey McKean.
Should he dispatch the American in a quick fashion on home turf this weekend, his rise to fame would be undeniable, and his name would be thrown into the mix with the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois.

Speaking to 247Bet, Price heralded Itauma as the “future of heavyweight boxing.”
“Moses Itauma is the future of heavyweight boxing. Not only does he have the talent, ability and the skill set, but he’s got the mentality and the attitude towards the sport that you need to succeed in boxing. He’s got a great mindset and a great way about him, which will carry him a long way.”

Price: ‘damaged goods’ Daniel Dubois presents an opportunity to Itauma
A stunning victory over Franklin this weekend would set the stage for a Brit vs. Brit superfight with any of the big names. The most likely candidate would be Dubois, and Price believes his ‘damaged goods’ status has created an opportunity Itauma could capitalize upon.
“Moses Itauma is obviously the standout name when it comes to the future of British heavyweights. You’ve got people like Daniel Dubois, who, while he can come back and do really good things again, he’s kind of like damaged goods now. So there’s an opening, if you will, for the next big British name.”
