Netflix’s first-ever MMA event is littered with former UFC champions and veterans of the promotion, but it also features the sister of one of the biggest stars currently fighting in the UFC.
Jake Paul Announces Full MVP MMA 1 Card
Taking place on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA, MVP MMA 1 will air live on Netflix and is headlined by the year’s most unexpected matchup – a featherweight bout between UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey and fellow women’s MMA legend Gina Carano.
The stakes for the event were upped considerably when a matchup between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and Philipe Lins was added to the card, and Jake Paul recently unveiled the full 10-fight slate that features both former UFC stars and several notable fighters that made their names in other top MMA promotions.
Who is Alex Pereira’s Sister?
Plenty of combat sports fans will obviously be drawn to fights like Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry, Junior dos Santos vs. Robelis Despaigne, and Muhammad Mokaev vs Adriano Moraes, but MVP and Netflix have also booked a women’s flyweight matchup between Aline Pereira (sister of UFC star Alex Pereira) and Jade Masson-Wong.
Like her brother, Pereira initially entered combat sports through kickboxing and competed three times under the GLORY banner, where Alex held titles in two divisions and defeated fellow UFC star Israel Adesanya on two different occasions. After coming up short in a bid for GLORY gold in 2021, Aline made the jump to MMA the following year and dropped her debut to The Ultimate Fighter veteran Helen Peralta at LFA 147.
The 35-year-old went 1-2 overall in MMA before she made the move to Karate Combat in 2024, where she scored two knockout-wins before claiming the promotion’s women’s flyweight belt via decision last July. Pereira returned to the LFA later in the year and defeated Nejra Repp via unanimous decision to even out her MMA record.
Who is Aline Pereira Fighting?
While their professional MMA experience is nearly even, Pereira’s opponent Masson-Wong did have brief amateur MMA and kickboxing careers and has most recently been competing in both boxing and bareknuckle boxing.
“Evil Smile” closed out her amateur days in 2018 with back-to-back wins in MMA before making her pro debut later that year at TKO 43. Masson-Wong compiled a 3-0 record by the end of 2018, but that initial run of success was halted when she was stopped by former UFC fighter Mandy Böhm and current UFC women’s flyweight contender Jamey-Lyn Horth.
Masson-Wong has primarily competed for BKFC since losing to Horth in 2020 and has put together a 4-2 record that includes a failed title bid at BFKC 65. The 35-year-old has also gone 2-1 in professional boxing, and she’s now set to return to MMA after taking a unanimous decision over Crystal Pittman in a BKFC matchup last month.
